Chronometer’s Curse
About
Eli Booker, an unemployed inventor with a loving family, creates a time machine in his basement. Hoping to escape financial hardship, he plans to travel back two weeks in time to win the lottery. However, due to a faulty keypad and the stress of a looming eviction, he mistakenly travels back to 1816 North Carolina, landing in the heart of slavery.
Stranded with a dead battery, Eli must rely on Jebediah, an enslaved blacksmith, to help him recharge his Chronometer and return home. They face numerous challenges, including hiding Eli from the slave master, gathering the necessary materials for a makeshift inverter, and navigating the suspicions and fears of the other slaves.
Eli’s journey takes him to a wise root woman who provides crucial components and cryptic advice. He witnesses the harsh realities of slavery firsthand, deepening his empathy and resolve to fight for justice upon his return.
After close calls and daring improvisations, Eli manages to repair his time machine with the help of Jebediah. He leaves behind a collection of modern technology as a token of gratitude and a symbol of hope for a better future.
Eli ultimately returns to his own time, arriving two weeks earlier than planned. This gives him a second chance to cherish his family and use his knowledge to positively impact the world. He wins the lottery, securing his family’s financial future. Still, his experience in the past has transformed him, leaving him with a profound understanding of the past, a renewed appreciation for the present, and a determination to build a better future.
